January 05, 2013 12:03 pm | Updated June 13, 2016 02:54 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench in Madurai on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation petition filed seeking establishment of Special Fast Track Courts in every district for exclusive trial of offences such as rape and acid attacks against women.

A Division Bench of Justice K. N. Basha and Justice P. Devadass dismissed the case after recording the submission of Additional Government Pleader T.S. Mohamed Mohideen that the State Government was already taking effective steps towards curbing crime against women.

It was also pointed out during the hearing that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had issued a statement recently listing out a 13 point plan which included imposition of death penalty on rape convicts and expeditious trial of rape cases.
