A public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court Bench here to restrain Madurai Kamaraj University from appointing Associate Professors and Assistant Professors without filling up the backlog vacancies.
When the matter came up before a Division Bench of Justices V. Ramasubramanian and V.M. Velumani on Wednesday, MKU counsel Isaac Mohanlal undertook to file a detailed counter affidavit explaining the steps taken by the university to fill up the backlog vacancies.
In his affidavit, the petitioner, S.S. Chandran Babu, a former student of the university, accused the institution of flouting the reservation policy since 1998 and denying the rights of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the backward classes candidates while filling up vacancies.
He claimed that the university had so far not conducted a special recruitment drive to fill up the backlog vacancies as required by a Government Order passed by the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department on July 20, 1993, though the backlog vacancies had piled up since 1998.
