The Forum for Physiotherapists observed a fast at the North Masi West Masi Street here on Sunday pressing their demands which include establishing a Tamil Nadu Physiotherapy Council.
The physiotherapists said that the Government was yet to form a council for them to regularise their services and this had resulted in those who finished the courses could not register their names as doctors.
They said that services to the rural society also had not reached those for whom the services were intended.
Preventing them from using the prefix ‘Dr' would deny their services to rural people who might not understand them as physiotherapists, the members alleged. They insisted that those who completed their courses in unrecognised institutions should not be permitted to practise the same.
They said that as per the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the government should appoint physiotherapists at all Primary Health Centres.
