The Madras High Court Bench here on Monday dismissed a writ petition filed by a woman sub-inspector of police from Sivaganga district alleging sexual harassment by Superintendent of Police N. Rajasekaran and Senthamaraikannan, a head constable with the Special Branch.

Justice M. Jeyapaul said that the petitioner K. Narmatha (36) had initially complained to the SP levelling certain allegations against the head constable.

Enquiry

Immediately, he appointed a woman Deputy Superintendent of Police to enquire into the allegations.

However, the sub-inspector chose not to complain about anyone before the enquiry officer and stated that she had no grievances. Subsequently, she had come up with the present petition levelling allegations against the SP himself “who had taken sincere efforts to enquire into the matter,” the judge said.

Allowing this sort of writ petitions would tarnish the image of the police department, he observed and refused to direct the Home Secretary and the Director General of Police to initiate action against the SP and the head constable.
