Small and medium enterprises will eventually become large and successful ventures over a period of time if those who run it have the vision and persistence, according to B.T. Bangera, Managing Director, HI-Tech Arai.
Speaking at a seminar on ‘From small to medium, medium to big,’ organised by WE – Women Entrepreneurs, a women empowerment forum of Tamil Nadu Chamber Foundation, here recently, he traced the growth of his company. Mr. Bangera said the growth happened because of persistence over a long period of time, despite a stiff competition.
The WE forum, which promotes entrepreneurship among women, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College to mentor students who were interested in starting small ventures. The forum had been mentoring students of Fatima College and Lady Doak College who were involved in production and sale of items such as candles and chocolates.
“We have been a part of similar projects at many colleges where we speak to the students about entrepreneurship and hear out venture ideas from them. Viable ventures are shortlisted and we give them the seed capital to start the business and guide them in production, branding and marketing,” said forum chairman Rajakumari Jeevagan.
“We give them the jump-start. But many also chose to develop their ventures after they leave college,” she said.
