‘People’s President’ remembered

Floral tributes were paid to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at several places, including educational institutions, in the city on his first death anniversary on Wednesday.

In a unique gesture, students of Al-Ameen Higher Secondary School, K. Pudur, presented a design of Rs. 5,000 coin with the face of the ‘People’s President’ to Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao, with a request to forward it to the Union government. Students of several schools lit candles and conducted prayers with garlanded photographs of the former President. State general secretary of Janata Dal (Secular) K. John Moses led party workers in paying tributes to Kalam. G. Rajendran presided over a meeting organised by the party to observe the first death anniversary of the former President.
