People are fed up with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam rule in the State due to the rise in the prices of essential commodities, power crisis and deteriorating law and order situation, and hence they have decided to support the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates in the Lok Sabha election, according to DMK MP Kanimozhi.
Campaigning for party candidate F.M. Rajaratinam at Swamiyarmadam near Thuckalay on Tuesday, she said the DMK continued to ensure the welfare of minorities and the people in the district should not be deceived by false promises made by divisive forces.
“There is no ideological difference between the AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party as both have tried their level best to prevent the implementation of Sethusamudram project. The BJP obstructed the project on the pretext of saving the “Ramar bridge”, and the AIADMK on the pretext of protecting the livelihood of fishermen in future. But they failed to take into account the employment opportunities that could be created for the youths if the project was executed,” Ms. Kanimozhi charged.
She said during the DMK rule, the district witnessed development in all fields, particularly in the tourism sector. The DMK candidate would strive for the development and betterment of society by ensuing peace and communal harmony. The minorities should think before exercising the franchise, she added.
Sitting MP J. Helen Davidson worked for all the people — Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Mr. Rajaratinam would follow it up if he was elected, she noted.
Earlier, Kottar Diocese parish priest George Ponniha and parish priest for public relations of the Diocese David Micheal met Ms. Kanimozhi at Pottayadi near Kanyakumari and assured her that minorities would always support the DMK.
She was accompanied by district secretary N. Suresh Rajan, Ms. Helen Davidson and Padmanabhapuram MLA Pushpa Leela Alban.
