Order to pay gratuity

The Madras High Court Bench here has directed Palani Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple management to pay gratuity to three of its employees in terms of a 2014 Supreme Court ruling that temple employees were also entitled to the terminal benefit.

Disposing of individual writ petitions filed by the employees, Justice T. Raja pointed out that the apex court had gone a step ahead and ordered that employees attaining the age of superannuation should be paid all terminal benefits without being forced to approach the courts.

In eight weeks

Hence, he ordered that all three writ petitioners should be paid gratuity within eight weeks in terms of the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972.
