The Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Service Authority K. Muralishankar directed the State Government to pay a compensation of ₹.2 lakh to a 15-year-old rape victim under Tamil Nadu Victims Compensation Scheme 2013 here on Tuesday.

The victim hailed from a remote village near Oddanchatram.

While awarding the sentence to the accused in the rape case, Mahila Court Judge K. Karunanidhi advised the District Legal Services Authority to find ways to provide compensation to the victim under this scheme.

The DLSA Secretary, C. Vijaya Kumar, said that the DLSA recommended the case for suitable compensation and the PDJ issued the order to the government to pay the compensation. This was the first case to receive compensation under this scheme in the district, he added.
