District Crime Branch Police arrested one person in connection with passport scam here on Friday.

The arrested was Vadivel, native of Dharapuram in Kumbakonam. He was arrested in Tiruchi and brought to Dindigul for investigation. He was the fourth accused in the scam. The police said that he was assisting a seven-member gang in preparing bogus documents that were used for obtaining fake passports to several people.

Bogus documents

They stated that Vadivel was helping the team in preparing copies of bogus ration card and transfer certificates for applicants and sending them to Tiruchi to get passports.

Acting on a complaint lodged by Jeevagani, the then Personal Assistant to Collector, in November 2009 in connection with the bogus documents attached with two passport applications, the Superintendent of Police had ordered the DCB to investigate the case.

Preliminary investigations revealed that address and other supportive documents of two applicants - Arun Kumar and Balamurugan of Batlagundu - were bogus. No person was available in the address given in the application forms.

The police were in search of Sudhakar, Vishwa, Illias, Vadivel, Siva Kumar and two others. in this connection
