Pass percentage goes up in Sivaganga district

The district recorded an increase in pass percentage in tenth standard public examinations this year both in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (S.S.L.C.) stream and Matriculation Board securing 91 and 98 per cent respectively as against 88 and 96 per cent last year. According to results published by the Directorate of Government Examinations on Wednesday, 15,090 out of 16,506 students in S.S.L.C. stream cleared all the subjects.

Similarly, 1,710 out of 1,743 students came out successful in the Matriculation Board exams.

Of 8,597 girls who wrote the examinations in S.S.L.C. stream, 7,940 passed in all subjects. The corresponding figure for boys was 7,150 out of 7,909 students.

In Matriculation Board, only seven out of 709 girls failed to clear the exams. Among boys, 26 out of 1,034 students did not make it.

In S.S.L.C. stream, R. Priyanka of St. Mary's Girls Higher Secondary School in Devakottai and V. Kohila of St. Justin's Girls Higher Secondary School in Sivaganga shared the district first rank with 492 marks each.

The former had scored centum in mathematics, science and social science subjects.

The second rank too was shared by two students with S. Arunkumar of NSMVPS Higher Secondary School in Sivaganga and D. Surega of St. Justin's School scoring 491 marks each. B. Indhu of St. Mary's School and T. Egambal of C.C. Girls Higher Secondary School in Kottaiyur secured the third place with 490 marks.

Among students belonging to the Matriculation Board, V. Shyam Krishnan of Oxford Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Sivaganga stood first in the district scoring 483 marks with centum in mathematics and science. He scored 97 in social science, 91 in Tamil and 89 in English.

PL. Muthusubramanian of Maharishi Vidman Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Karaikudi and S. Lavanya of Alagappa Matriculation Higher Secondary School came second in the district with 479 marks.

Both of them scored centum in mathematics and science subjects.

Four students — S. Lavanya and N. Vellachi of Alagappa School, H. Taj Reefa of Christu Raja Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Tiruppathur and V. Priyadharshini of Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Thiruppuvanam — secured the third place with 478 marks each.
