No case has been registered with Kovilpatti East police

Nine students of Lower Kindergarten sustained injuries on Tuesday as a small portion of the concrete ceiling collapsed in a class room of Seventh Day Adventist Matriculation School located on Vakkil Street in Kovilpatti at around 3.40 p.m.

Of the injured, the left thumb of D. Gautham was amputated and subsequently he was taken to Madurai for treatment, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kovilpatti, P. Rajendran said.

Other three sustained head injuries and the rest suffered minor injuries. Initially, the injured had been admitted to Kovilpatti Government Headquarters Hospital following the incident.


He said the injured were conscious and their condition of the injured was said to be stable. Since all the injured were at tender age, he insisted the doctors to scan them. Later, the parents took them to private hospitals.

Administrators of the school had been instructed not to use the two classrooms until the rooms were renovated, he said. However, case has not been registered with Kovilpatti East police.

The injured were V. Jeyamalini, T. Vishnu, P. Muneeswaran, T. Munisha, A. Geetha, S. Mahasri, G. Ponswathi and J. Ramahariharan.
