Outgoing Pandian Express was detained for 15 minutes at the Madurai junction after irate passengers pulled the alarm chain angered over the suffocating atmosphere in one of the air-conditioned coaches, on Sunday.
Railway sources said that the passengers of III tier AC coach felt that the air conditioning was not properly working. As the train was about to leave, someone pulled the chain.
Later, railway officials pacified the crowd stating that the cooling in the coach would improve as the train picked up speed.
