28 corroded girders to be replaced with new ones

The Pamban rail bridge is being strengthened with replacement of 28 corroded girders with new ones.

Local MR Hi Tech Engineers Private Limited has moved the gantry at the bridge for replacing the more than 11-year-old corroded girders at a cost of Rs 3.16 crore. The new girders were being transited and replacement work would commence on December 30.

The company decided to make use of four-hour window span of time available thrice a week and complete work.

Except Madurai-Rameswaram passenger train, which would be held at Mandapam for about 30 minutes, all other trains would run as per schedule, he said.
