A paint-laden lorry which was proceeding from Chennai to Madurai reportedly toppled near Kottampatti in the early hours of Saturday.

Madurai District Police said that two persons identified as Richolas (42) and Ravindran (45) suffered injuries in the accident and were admitted to Melur Government Hospital.

Though the reason for the mini-lorry getting toppled was not known immediately, the accident resulted in the paint flowing along the four-lane track at Ayyapatti Vilakku.

Plastic containers, filled with paints, were destroyed as the vehicle toppled.

Kottampatti police have registered a case and are investigating.

Three killed in accidents

Eswari (45) wife of Marimuthu of Maharajan Nagar near Virahanoor was unwell for sometime. On Saturday, her son offered to take her to a private hospital for a check-up. As they were riding on a two-wheeler, the vehicle skidded near a huge pit. Eswari fell and was rushed to the hospital.

The doctors declared her brought dead. Avaniapuram police are investigating.

In a similar incident, Shanti (47) of Pechiamman Padithurai had a fall, when she was going along with her husband on a two-wheeler. As they were approaching the Koodal Nagar flyover, her husband, attempted to overtake a tri-cycle, when Shanti fell.

In a serious condition, she was rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital, where she died.

In another incident, a pedestrian identified as Selvi died when she was hit by a vehicle on the Thirumangalam highway. Police sent the body to government hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation is on.
