The work for constructing temporary facilities for an omni-bus stand at Mattuthavani will begin soon, Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa has said.
Inspecting a site adjacent to the Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Stand, along with Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, on Tuesday, Mr. Chellappa said that out of the 11.36 acres of land available there, the temporary facility would be allotted 4 acres. “We have proposed to construct two bus bays, 30 office rooms for bus operators, and a waiting hall for passengers at a cost of Rs. One crore,” he said. The facility would be secured with a compound wall around it. The work is expected to be completed in three months.
“We will not float tender, because only the existing bus operators will be accommodated in the new facility,” he added. The corporation officials would discuss the issue with omni-bus operators.
Corporation council had passed a resolution at the last council meeting for the facility. The officials had already prepared a detailed project report at a cost of Rs. 70 crore for a permanent facility for the omni-bus stand. “However, that will be considered only on getting required funds,” he added.
