In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old man jumped to death from Albert Victor Bridge here on Tuesday.

Police said Asokan of Lakshmipuram 8th Street was walking on the bridge in the morning. Suddenly, he scaled the parapet and jumped from there, eye witnesses said.

As the river was dry, Asokan suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot.

The reason for his taking the extreme step was not known immediately.

An identity card found in his shirt pocket enabled the police to locate the address of the deceased.

Preliminary inquiries suggested that Asokan was working in a grocery shop.

Further investigation is on.
