Corporation officials sealed a residential building under construction near Tirumalai Nayak Mahal for large-scale violation of the approved building plan on Wednesday.

Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, inspected the building on Mahal 3 Street along with City Town Planning Officer M. Rakkappan.

Building owner Kiran Devi, had got the plan approved in 2009 for constructing residential building measuring 3,700 square feet. While the plan was for a two-storey building (ground floor and two floors), the owner had constructed ground and four floors. The building measured around 7,800 square feet.

Besides, the building also violated the norms of building height restriction. “The height of the building within one km of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple should not be beyond 9 metres. But, this building has violated that norms,” he said.

Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner (Zone 3), D. Chinnammal, the City Town Planning Officer instructed the workers to leave the construction site and removed the construction materials. The gates of the building were locked and sealed.
