A one- day orientation programme to brief officials from the district administration and Members of Parliament from the Madurai, Theni and Dindigul on the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) scheme was held at the Collectorate here on Saturday.
The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11 and it encourages Members of Parliament to identify and develop one village from their constituency as a model village by 2016, and two more by 2019.
K. Arunmani, Joint Director of the Regional rural training Centre at T. Kallupatti, addressed the officials and MPs on the scheme. Through the orientation programme, the participants were told in detail about the objectives of the schemes and their effective implementation.
R. Gopalakrishnan, Madurai MP, R. Parthiban, Theni MP, and M. Udhayakumar, Dindigul MP participated in the programme.
Madurai Collector L. Subramanian, Additional Collector (Development) Rohini Ramdas, Theni Collector K.S. Pazhanisamy and other officials from the district administration also attended the programme.
