Offical inspects drainage works in Madurai

The Joint Commissioner of Municipal Administration Ajay Yadav on Friday inspected several works being carried out by the Madurai Corporation under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Along with Corporation Commissioner R. Nanthagopal, he inspected the drainage channels, storm water drainage and underground drainage works being implemented at various places in the city.

To improve civic amenities for the Madurai Corporation, the Chief Minister had given a special allocation of Rs.250 crore of which Rs.116 crore has been released under the first phase.

Mr. Yadav inspected Kosakulam drainage channel being constructed opposite to the Mattuthavani Flower Market with JNNURM funds and also visited the rainwater harvesting channel in the SIDCO industrial estate. Later, he inspected the progress in construction of concrete houses at Ramavarma Nagar in K. Pudur under a Government scheme.

The Joint Commissioner also visited the site where a new bus stand is coming up for omni buses near Mattuthavani Bus Stand, according to a Corporation press release.

Mehabooba, Joint Commissioner of Madurai Corporation, A.Mathuram, City Engineer in-charge and other officials accompanied Mr.Yadav and explained to him the progress in works.

A review meeting was also arranged with engineers, health officials, sanitary workers and community organisers.
