Now, getting certificates made easy, thanks to Common Service Centres

Only problem is technical glitch in server that affects speed

With students rushing to enrol themselves in colleges, and graduates completing formalities to register themselves in employment exchange, the Common Service Centres (CSC) which offer the required certificates through online mode have been catering to a large number of people.

From April 26 to May 26 this year alone, the e-service centres have received 23,086 applications from people who have sought community certificate, income certificate and nativity certificate.

While 16,911 certificates have been issued, 5,315 are pending and the rest of the applications have either been rejected or returned.

A vast majority of the applications received across all the centres in the district is for income certificates followed by nativity certificates.

Apart from certificates issued by the Revenue Department, the public can also register themselves for schemes offered by the Social Welfare Department. This facility, which was introduced in February, has received 841 applications till date. People who visit the centres submit an application for the required certificate which are scanned and sent to a common online portal which is dispatched to the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of the area.

The request is validated and the certificate digitally signed by the official and sent back to the e-district centre. The applicant receives an SMS following which they can collect the certificate.

Speed glitch

A few centres in the district have, however, reported technical glitches owing to speed of the server.

A. Jayachandran, who came to collect income certificate from the centre on the Collectorate premises, said that a lot of time was taken to submit the application owing to a technical glitch in the system. “Anyway I am happy with this online facility as I can get the certificate within a week at one place and need not pay any extra charges,” he said.
