No fresh incidents: Collector
After three days of tension, normality returned to Ramanathapuram district on Thursday.
Tense situation prevailed in Paramakudi, Kamudhi, Mudukulathur and Ramanathapuram town in the last three days after three people were killed in the backdrop of Thevar jayanthi and guru puja in Pasumpon village on October 30.
Some violent incidents in the aftermath of the murder of three people, threatened to take an ugly turn in this district, but the quick response by the district administration and the police ensured the return of peace and law and order.
Ramanathapuram town, which remained tense on Wednesday following clashes between two groups, returned to normal on Thursday. Bus started plying and shops opened.
“The situation is by and large peaceful and no fresh incidents of clashes or violence reported during the past 24 hrs,” District Collector K. Nanthakumar told The Hindu. The clash between two groups, witnessed at Valantharavai, near Ramanathapuram on Wednesday night, had nothing to do with the murder cases, he said.
Bus services have been resumed from Ramanathapuram to Madurai, Tiruchendur, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tiruchi and Pattukottai. The services will resume shortly in Kamudhi, Mudukalathur and Paramakudi areas, the Collector said.
