The city will not face any water scarcity now and even if the water storage was to go down due to paucity of inflows or rains, the authorities were fully geared to tackle any shortage, according to Corporation Assistant Commissioner A. Devadoss.
The situation was being constantly monitored by Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa with Corporation Commissioner R. Nandagopal chairing a meeting on Friday to discuss the preparedness of the civic body. He said this while addressing the 108th birth anniversary of Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad organised by the Tamil Isai Sangam here on Sunday.
The civic body is also undertaking cleaning up works on every Saturday in the most backward areas of the four zones of Madurai Corporation with a view to ensure a ‘pollution free’ Madurai, informed Mr. Devadoss. He also recalled the life and times of Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar. The Assistant Commissioner also presented to ‘vidhuvan’ L. Shanmugasundaram the Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar Birthday Commemoration Award, given every year by the Tamil Isai Sangam to a person for their services rendered to the growth of Tamil literature.
Delivering a lecture on Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar, Former Vice- Principal of Fatima College Visalakshi Subramanian said that he led a exemplary political life and set high standards in integrity for those in public life.
