‘No’ to Vaigai water for irrigation

The Public Works Department on Thursday told the Madras High Court Bench here that it would not be possible to release water from Vaigai dam for the use of farmers in Sivaganga district since the available water may not be sufficient even to meet e drinking water requirements of Madurai city residents.

The submission was made before Justices S. Manikumar and C.T. Selvam who were seized of a PIL petition filed by S. Aadhimoolam, office-bearer of a farmers’ association in Sivaganga, seeking water for irrigation.
