Accusing the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, Bharatiya Janata Party State president Tamilisai Soundararajan said here on Sunday that there was no law and order in the State.

Speaking to reporters after opening a free legal aid clinic at the party’s office at B.B. Kulam, she said people witnessed grave crimes and were caught in a grip of fear all the time. The government should now wake up and act, she stressed. Police department had a large number of vacancies. The available staff found it tough to perform the tasks assigned to them. Hence, the vacancies should be filled on a war footing. Similarly, there were many posts lying vacant in government departments. It was high time the AIADMK government realised it and acted swiftly, she said.

Seeking to answer the allegations levelled by DMK president M. Karunanidhi that the Union government was inducing caste and communal feelings through the new education policy, Ms. Soundararajan said the BJP had no intention to mislead the people in any issue.

“This is totally baseless and had no iota of truth. The BJP government, led by Narendra Modi, had six Dalit faces in the recently shuffled Cabinet team… Hence, accusing the BJP of anti-Dalit contained no truth,” she noted.

The BJP did not foresee any need for seeking alliance for the ensuing local body elections as it would face it independently and prove its worth with people’s support. There was more time for the elections and the party would take a decision at the right time, she said answering a query.

Later in the evening, the party members took out a campaign rally from Gandhi Memorial Museum to Vaigai riverbank to save the river from being polluted.

The party organisers were joined by the cadres and college students from eco clubs.
