Do not compromise on child development as children are the future of our society, said Collector Anshul Mishra
Inaugurating the two-day training programme for juvenile board members from 16 districts of Tamil Nadu on ‘juvenile justice system – role and responsibilities for newly appointed members’, organised under the auspices of TN Social Defence Department, Mr. Mishra said that juvenile justice is a very important aspect of the legal system as it deals with children in conflict with law. Why this kind of conflict , many may wonder. It has to be studied since there may be different factors. It has to be approached with due care as children should not be looked upon like other criminals. The children are the future of the society.
The authorities handling juvenile crimes should draw a plan of action that would reach every child. They must be made to realise that it is their right to grow in a conducive environment.
By creating awareness programs among children and parents, juvenile offences could be prevented to a large extent. Prior to initiating action as per the laws, the juvenile board members have to understand the background of the children, their socio-economic circumstances and other related points.
Many children may not have undergone proper schooling.
This may be one major reason. Similarly, lack of parenting may also be seen as another potential factor for juvenile offences. The problems has to be examined closely in a focused manner, Mr. Mishra stressed.
Proper environment
The Collector further said that everybody in the society should realise that the children should grow in a proper environment, where social values could be disseminated. What is important is the children should be trained about the good things and that they don’t indulge against the society or the laws.
While assuring support from the district administration to prevent juvenile offences, Mr. Mishra said that awareness programmes for parents/children should create an impact.
Ultimately, the idea should be reforming the children and bringing them up as a responsible citizen.
Earlier, Joint Director (Social Defence Department) A. N. Saravanan welcomed the gathering. Deputy Director Sheik Allavudin among others participated. The workshop will conclude on Saturday.
