The Madurai Kamaraj University here is gearing up for the next round of staff recruitment and the process is commencing this week.
In the first step, the university would fill up 11 teaching posts which were identified, approved and funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
R. Karpaga Kumaravel, MKU Vice-Chancellor, told The Hindu on Sunday that the 11 posts were coming under the Eleventh Plan and the appointments will be done on subject specialisation basis.
“Recruitment for these UGC-approved posts is the next task for us. We will notify these posts in a couple of days and I want to complete the selection process at the earliest by following all stipulated guidelines,” he said.
Of the 11 teaching positions, 10 will be assistant professors (lecturers) and the remaining one post is in the cadre of Professor for the post of Director of Centre for Educational Research established in the university campus.
This recruitment is for subject areas including Plant Biotechnology, environmental studies, remote sensing, computer science, physical education, French, Sociology and the Centre for Educational Research.
Only last month, 89 Assistant Professors were appointed in MKU to fill up the backlog vacancies that existed for over two decades.
The Vice-Chancellor said that nine Professors will also be appointed “because we need leadership in teaching departments.”
Dr. Karpaga Kumaravel had said that steps are being taken to fill up the non-teaching posts in the university and also Associate Professors.
“Everything will be done in a transparent manner and there need not be any apprehensions about that. Right now, we are taking a status report on the posts to be filled,” he said.
Dr.Karpaga Kumaravel said that an opportunity will be given for those MKU non-teaching staff, who are on arrangement basis and put in 10 years of service in the varsity, to appear for a written examination to be conducted by the university while filing up of non-teaching posts through employment exchange/Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
The Vice-Chancellor said that Rs.1 crore was allotted to the university towards office automation under the University with Potential for Excellence Scheme of the UGC.
“Office automation will be completed fast. Only then we will know the manpower required for our university,” he said.
