New Corporation Commissioner of Madurai assumes charge

C. Kathiravan took over as Commissioner, Corporation of Madurai, here on Wednesday. According to a press release, Mr.Kathiravan earlier served as Additional Director (Agriculture) at Chennai after he was promoted as IAS in December 2013.

Earlier, he had worked as RDO in Kallakurichi, Aranthangi and Villupuram, and served as Special Deputy Collector (Tsunami Relief). In 2007, when he was promoted as DRO, he worked in Villupuram and Thiruvannamalai. Mr.Kathiravan was also posted in Aavin as its General Manager in Salem.

After assuming office, he called on the Mayor, V.V. Rajan Chellappa, in the Anna Maaligai here.

The new Commissioner held a meeting with senior officials, but media persons were not invited on the occasion.

Prior to Mr.Kathiravan’s posting, Kiran Gurrala, a young IAS officer, was posted as Commissioner at the fag end of 2013.

During his short tenure, Mr.Gurrala had conducted a special drive to collect pending property tax dues and the Corporation benefited to the tune of over Rs.2 crore.

Similarly, frequent monitoring of toll gate collections along the 27.2-km-long Ring Road had fetched the exchequer higher earnings than in the past, officials said.
