New Commissioner of Police, Madurai City, S. Davidson Devasirvatham, and new Inspector General of Police (South Zone), K.P. Shanmuga Rajeswaran, have stressed the need for police-public cooperation for effective policing.
Mr. Davidson said that he would focus on community policing for the benefit of both the police and the public. He would strive to uphold law and order, prevent and detect crimes. He said that road traffic in the city would be improved with the cooperation of residents. All innovative schemes introduced by his predecessors that have been giving positive results would continue.
He succeeds Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, who has been posted as Inspector General of Police, (Special Investigation Division, CB-CID). He was hitherto IGP (Welfare) in Chennai.
A 1995-batch Indian Police Service Officer, Mr. Davidson has worked in different cities in various capacities. He has worked for the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Kosovo and as South Zone Director of Narcotics Control Bureau.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rajeswaran is replacing Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who has been transferred as IGP (Armed Police). He said that he would take proactive steps to book potential trouble-mongers and those identified as trouble mongers who were escaping from the court of law. He exuded confidence that with pre-emptive, prompt and impartial action, he could prevent caste and communal clashes in southern districts.
People would be educated about evil designs of vested interests that promote hatred. He said that he would try to motivate the police and their welfare would be taken care of. By enhancing police-public relationship, the productivity of policing could be improved. He said that people can alert him on various policing issues over 94981-98199.
A post-graduate in Law (Crimes) and Law (Administration) Mr. Rajeswaran, has worked in various districts in different capacities. He was with the Special Investigation Team (CB-CID).
