Nellai district has over 25 lakh voters

The electoral roll that was released here on Friday shows that the district has 25,04,891 voters.

Releasing the electoral roll with photographs of voters here on Friday, Collector Sandeep Nanduri said the district has 25,04,891 electorates, including 12,34,142 men voters, 12,70,681 women voters and 68 other voters. The Tirunelveli Corporation houses 3,89,425 electorates, including 1,91,677 men voters, 1,97,713 women voters and 35 other voters.

Municipalities in the district had 3,21,593 voters, including 1,58,676 men voters, 1,62,912 women voters and 5 other voters. Town panchayat areas had 4,72,003 voters, including 2,32,319 men, 2,39,679 women and 5 other voters. The panchayat union areas had 13,21,870 voters, including 6,51,470 men, 6,70,377 women and 23 other voters.

“The district had 20,20,278 voters during the local body elections held in 2011 and now it has 25,04,891, an increase of 4,84,613 voters,” Mr. Sandeep said.

Following instruction from the Election Commission of India, the summary revision of electoral roll would be conducted between July 1 and 31 to include in the electoral roll all eligible voters who have completed 18 years of age. Hence special camps would be conducted on July 7 and 23 in all polling stations during which addition and deletion of voters and corrections, if any, in the electoral roll could be done.

District Revenue Officer P. Muthuramalingam, Corporation Commissioner S. Sivasubramanian, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency A. Palani and others were present.
