The ambitious project of planting one lakh neem saplings by HUL’s iconic personal care brand Hamam under its Green Puthaandu initiative, successfully completed on Sunday.
Powered by The Hindu group, the project, help nature #StartStrong, was aimed at helping the people of Tamil Nadu to compensate with the loss of green cover due to cyclone Vardah.
The initiative, originally planned for 10 coastal districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, was later expanded to Salem, Erode, Tiruchi and Madurai to support the Government drive to de-weed the Seemai Karuvelam trees.
Harman Dhillon, the general manager of Skin Cleansing at HUL, remarked, Hamam understood the urge amongst many socially conscious citizens to contribute towards improving the situation and wanted to mobilize people towards an ambitious environmentally positive goal.
Neem required little water, can grow in all kinds of soil and improves soil fertility and water holding capacity. The project would continue to monitor the health of each sapling for up to six months to give them the best chance of survival.
