Naxal issue: advocates' suggestion to Centre

June 01, 2010 02:18 pm | Updated November 09, 2016 03:03 pm IST - MADURAI:

Members of the advocates' wing of the Madurai urban district Congress committee have suggested to the Centre to bring under its direct control those districts affected by Naxalite and extremist activities.

At a meeting held here on Sunday, the advocates said that the Constitution could be suitably amended so as to bring under the direct control of the Centre districts prone to Naxalite or extremist attacks.

The meeting also referred to a private member's bill moved in the Rajya Sabha by B. S. Gnanadesigan in this connection, according to a Congress press release.

Those who addressed the meeting included Mr. Gnanadesigan, A. Deivanayagam, president, District Congress Committee, and K. S. K. Rajendran, MLA.
