Solar power developers interested in joining the Central Government ’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) can apply between March 31 and June 30.

The ambitious mission, plans to generate 20 gigawatt by the year 2020 by establishing solar photovoltaic (SPV) and solar thermal power plants across the country, S.E.S. Syed Ahamed, Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) Deputy General Manager of Madurai Region, told ‘The Hindu’ on Tuesday.

He said that applicants for the Mission must meet several eligibility norms. The TEDA is the nodal agency for implementing the project in the State. The Madurai Region of TEDA covers 16 districts of south and central Tamil Nadu.

The companies registered under this Mission would get a Generation-based incentive and Selling Price of Rs. 18.44 per unit.

The concern applying must have evacuated minimum of 33 KV to the State transmission utility, which is the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. It must source all its equipment such as SPV cells and modules only from India.

The concern applying for to generate 1 MW under the scheme must have had a net worth of around Rs. 3 crore during its past three years. If they are applying for 2 MW, the concern must be worth Rs. 6 crore and so on. Further, the concern must have one hectare for every MW they want to generate, he

said.

The solar power developer must also meet the various technical requirements of the Union Ministry of the New and Renewable Energy. Further information could be obtained from: www.mnre.gov.in, www.nvvn.co.in, and www.cercind.gov.in, said Mr. Syed.

Only those fulfilling the above requirements would be registered and will then be short-listed for selection by the Central Empowered Committee.
