National MSME award winner felicitated

A felicitation function was organised here on Tuesday joinly by seven trade bodies for A.K.B. Nawas Babu, Director of S.A. Knifwears here, who was selected for the National Award for Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs – 2008.

Speaking on the occasion, D. Rajendran, Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation (TANSIDCO), entrepreneurs should look to completely eliminate wastage in their manufacturing process.They should implement high standards of quality control measures, in which trade bodies could extend valuable assistance.

Mr. Rajendran said that a meeting of entrepreneurs and industrialists was convened earlier in the day by the District Collector N. Mathivanan in which the issue of land banks was discussed.He said that the Collector has been asked to identify 100 acres for a Plastic products cluster, 50 acres for a Rubber Cluster, and 60 acres for a BHEL engineering products cluster.

Speaking earlier, S. Shivagnanam, Director, MSME Development Institute, Chennai said that *quality, cost and delivery' were the vital aspects in business in order to survive at present. Optimum utilisation of resources was the order of the day with innovation being the key to cut costs. “Quality at all levels of the process has to become a culture,” he said.

D. Gandhikumar, president, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA), said that such award winners should guide other entrepreneurs also to similar glory. N. Somasundaram, president, Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA), spoke.

The awards function was organised jointly by MADITSSIA, Madurai Hosiery Industries Association, Tamil Nadu Readymade Garments Manufacturers' Association, Electro Platers and Metal Finishers Association, Tamil Nadu, Kappalur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association, Nagari Industries Association and K. Pudur Industrial Estate Association.
