A police team from Chennai picked-up for interrogation M. Natarajan, husband of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s close confidante N. Sasikala, from a bungalow near Five Falls at Courtallam on Monday in connection with alleged ‘cheating case’.
The incident was kept a closely guarded secret as the special police team from Chennai executed the operation even without informing the police affiliated to the Courtallam police station and the Special Branch police here.
In a complaint recently filed against Mr. Natarajan with Chennai City Police, karate exponent Shihan Husseini had alleged that the former had agreed to pay Rs. 98 lakh for designing a 50-feet-long and six-feet-tall frieze to be installed in the Mullivaaikaal Memorial at Thanjavur, which was established by World Tamil Confederation Trust (WTCF) to highlight the “mass killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka during the last phase of the war between Sri Lankan armed forces and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam”.
After giving Rs. 75 lakh, Mr. Natarajan allegedly refused to pay the remaining Rs. 23 lakh that reportedly forced Mr. Husseini to file a police complaint against Mr. Natarajan.
“When I enquired about the outstanding bill, he threatened me,” Mr. Husseini had alleged in his complaint that prompted the Chennai City Police to nab Mr. Natarajan.
Sources in the police said a 4-member team from Chennai that arrived at Courtallam this morning in a hired vehicle, entered the bungalow around 11 a.m. where Mr. Natarajan was staying since Sunday 7 p.m. Since the main entrance of the bungalow had been locked from inside, the policemen entered the bungalow premises by crossing a stream flowing near the cottage.
“The police team took Mr. Natarajan in the hired vehicle… We don’t know if he was being taken for interrogation in connection with Mr. Husseini’s complaint or he has been arrested,” the police sources said.
