Distribution of meat, money and groceries to the poor and offering of special prayers marked the Bakrid celebration held in various parts of the district on Saturday.
In the special prayers conducted by Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath on the Corporation Grounds at Melapalayam, over 5,000 Muslims participated.
Leading the prayers, Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath’s Administrative Committee chairman M. Shamsul Luha Rahmani explained the need of charity in the present scenario and being humble and humane towards the poor from all religions.
He appealed to the participants to strictly follow simplicity in every aspect of their life, particularly during marriage celebrations.
Good number of cows and sheep were sacrificed after the prayer and the meat was distributed to poor Muslims and others.
The TMMK organised Bakrid prayers at Bazaar Ground in Melapalayam.
TNTJ’s Masjid-Ur-Rahim administrative committee organised Bakrid prayers at Pettai.
In the Bakrid prayers organised by TNTJ at India Cements Grounds in Sankar Nagar, Moulwi Ajas led the prayers.
On behalf of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, party’s political advisory council member K.M.A. Nizam distributed meat, money and grocery to the needy persons.
Tuticorin
Bakrid, the festival of sacrifice, was celebrated with religious fervour across Tuticorin district on Saturday.
Scores of Muslims offered special prayers at various mosques.
In Tuticorin, prayers were offered at Jamia Mosque located on WGC Road.
After offering prayers, the Muslims slaughtered sheep, goats and oxen in large numbers and distributed the meat to people.
Slaughtering was also executed at the residences of the worshippers.
Meat of the slaughtered animal was divided into three portions and distributed to the poor, among the neighbourhood and relatives. Besides, alms were given to the needy.
Kayalpatnam, wore a festive atmosphere on the occasion of Bakrid.
Prayers were offered at more than thirty mosques at Kayalpatnam.
Some Muslims observed the festival on Friday with prayers at Kayalpatnam beach.
On ‘Arafa Day,’ the ninth day (Friday) of Haj month, a series of programmes including house warming, christening of new born babies and wedding engagements were held at Kayalpatnam, M.S. Mohammed Salih, a resident, said.
A camel kept for slaughtering, paraded on the streets of Kayalpatnam on Friday.
Apart from offering meat of the slaughtered animals, cooking ingredients including rice and oil were also provided to the poor.
Kayal Welfare Association, Singapore, offered such items to 60 families, Mr. Salih also said.
Nagercoil
Bakrid was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in different parts of the district on Saturday.
‘Namaaz’
Muslims celebrated the day by offering special ‘namaaz’ in various Masjids including Elankadai in Nagercoil, Thiruvithancode, Thuckalay, Colachel, Eraviputhurkadai, Kaliyakkavilai, Kottar, Manimedai etc, exchanging greetings, distributing sweets to neighbours marked the celebrations.
