The 25th Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on Wednesday passed off peacefully here with members of different political parties and Muslim organisations staged protests seeking construction of Babri Masjid at the same site from where it was demolished in Ayodhya in 1992.

Over 140 members of various Muslim organisations were arrested when they tried to stage road and rail roko. Social Democratic Party of India State vice-president A. Amjad Basha said that a majority of Muslims wanted the Supreme Court to give its verdict on the disputed site in Ayodhya. He was addressing a huge demonstration here on Wednesday.

“We do not want to have any out-of-court settlement on the issue. We expect the apex court to give a judgement that conformed to the sovereignty of the country,” he said.

Its district president M. Jaffer Sultan said that SDPI did not want any “agents” to broker peace between Hindus and Muslims.

The judgement should be based on what the Constitution has guaranteed.

Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam observed the day as anti-terrorism day. Its cadre sported black shirts during a demonstration. Its state general secretary P.S. Hameed urged the government to hand over the Babri Masjid site to Muslims.

He urged the Supreme Court to expedite the Babri masjid-Ram janma bhoomi case.

Its district secretary S. Sheik Ibrahim wanted action to be taken against those who were behind the demolition of the place of worship.

Members of Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi, Manithaneya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and Indian National Thowheed Jamath were arrested when they tried to picket railway station and road.
