A temple priest has been strangulated to death at Kalakkad due to suspected enmity.

Police said the body of a youth was found lying on Kalakkadu Middle Street on Wednesday morning. After the public alerted the police, it was sent to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.

During investigation, police found that the deceased was temple priest Balakrishnan (37) of Padmaneri.

Even as the family of Balakrishnan was searching for him after he left the house two days ago, his wife Vasanthi received a phone call from her husband, who urged her to take efforts to save him from his captivators.

As the phone got disconnected immediately and remained switched off, she informed the police. Against this backdrop, Balakrishnan’s body has been recovered.

Kalakkad police are investigating.
