The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute, Chennai, is going to telecast weekly programmes on entrepreneurship development on Podhigai channel of Doordarshan.
The weekly telecast is likely to be on Wednesdays between 11 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. and could commence in the first week of March, according to S. Sivagnanam, Director of the Institute, which functions under the Union Ministry of MSME.
Speaking to journalists here on Monday, he said the programme would disseminate information for both existing and aspiring entrepreneurs. It would give specific information such as how to start a food processing industry and prepare a project report. “We have already completed preparing three episodes. The programmes would also deal with the various opportunities available,” he said.
Another new initiative on the anvil was adopting video conferencing technology through satellites (V-SAT) to reach out to over 50,000 entrepreneurs across the country. This programme would be used to impart soft skills training and information on various schemes available for entrepreneurs, he said.
The Institute was also planning to launch 100-hour online courses in entrepreneurship development through their website shortly. Pilot runs have already commenced and the site’s full-fledged launch would be held within two months, he said.
While initially available in Tamil and English languages, the course would be expanded to other languages such as Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam, Mr. Sivagnanam informed. With the effects of recession wearing off, he said that new markets such as Latin American countries have emerged thereby creating opportunities for entrepreneurs.
The Director was here to take part in a training programme on ‘Industrial Safety Management’, in which around 70 workers and unemployed youth took part.
M.T. Wakode, Director of Madurai Division, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), N. Somasundaram, president, Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA), and others took part.
