Madurai chapter of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is organising its annual music festival, Madura Geetham 2010, to pay tribute to music legend M. S. Subbulakshmi during her birth week in her birthplace from September 10.

According to the convener of the Madurai chapter, Arvind Kumar Sankar, “The whole idea is to take this intangible heritage forward by introducing it to the next generation”.

Events

The events lined up for the festival include screening of the movie, ‘MS, Forever a Legend,' at Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology Auditorium on the inaugural day; a jughal bandhi by T. M. Krishna and Sangitha Shivakumar at Lakshmi Sundaram Hall on September 11 and a classical dance, ‘Maduraa Nayaki,' with a medley of songs of M. S. Subbulakshmi, by Anitha Ratnam on September 12 at the same venue.

Concert

On September 15, there will be a concert by Anusha Pradip at Fortune Pandiyan Hotel.

During the week, several other organisations have come forward to have panel discussions and talks on MS. Entry is free for all the events. More details can be had at 9655319343.
