Two motorcycle-borne men inflicted serious injuries on a 48-year-old man and robbed him of his gold ring and mobile phone at Thuvariman near here on Sunday night.
Police said the complainant, Palpandi (48), a government employee residing in Pykara, was returning home from Samayanallur on his two-wheeler.
The vehicle ran out of petrol and came to a halt near Thruvariman at around 10.30 p.m. He called his son-in-law for assistance and was waiting for him near the bund of a water body. Two persons came on a motorcycle and attacked him with a sickle on his head and arms. They snatched his cell phone and his gold ring weighing six grams and fled the spot.
Following a complaint from the victim, the police carried out a search for the suspects and caught them hiding in Nagamalai Pudukottai. They were identified as Stalin (27) of Sikkandarchavadi and Sundar (28) of Arapalayam.
Palpandi is receiving treatment at a private hospital, the police said.
A case has been registered under section 397 of IPC by the Nagamalai Pudukottai police. The stolen items were recovered from the accused who were remanded in judicial custody.

Police said Mahalakshmi (19) of Chakra Nagar was depressed over the loss of a gold necklace gifted by her mother on the occasion of Deepavali. She hanged herself in her room when her husband Suresh Kumar was away. A case has been registered by Oomachikulam police. An RDO enquiry is on.
