Expressing concern about less number of cases being resolved through mediation, Justice Vineet Kothari, the second senior-most judge of the Madras High Court, urged the panel advocates attached to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), to settle more cases through the mechanism of alternative dispute resolution, here on Sunday.

Justice Kothari held a meeting with the district judges, advocates and judicial officers of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to discuss the scenario of arbitration of cases through the High Court Legal Services.

Justice Kothari, who is also the executive chairman of Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority, appealed to the advocates, para-legal volunteers and mediators to switch to direct communication and not to be dependent on legal summons in a mediation case so as to ensure quick resolution of the cases. “A good, clear and direct communication is required,” said Justice Kothari.

Justice Kothari planted 16 saplings on the premises of the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. He also launched a plantation drive and asked the para legal volunteers to plant trees throughout the city. He said that monthly reports attached with photos have to be prepared to evaluate the reach of the drive.

Justice Kothari said that judges do not feel the pinch of water shortage and urged them to use water sparingly.
