Chief Minister Jayalalithaa unveiled a state-of-the-art milk chilling plant and a hi-tech parlour at Aavin Dairy here on Wednesday.
Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao, who visited Aavin facility, briefed reporters on the various development works carried out at the plant.
The chilling plant had been erected at a cost of Rs. 7.60 crore and the parlour at an estimate of Rs. 1.66 crore.
On an average, 2.60 lakh litres of milk was procured daily, of which 1.60 lakh litres were sold to public through Aavin milk depots and other agents. The remaining one lakh litres of milk was used for manufacturing various by-products including milk peda, butter, ghee and milk powder. The chilling plant, which could store up to two lakh litres, would be a boon for farmers, he added.
Aavin General Manager A. Perumal said the Aavin parlour adjacent to Aavin manufacturing facility near Sathamangalam had an air-conditioned hall, open space, a garden and children’s park. Six varieties of ice cream, pizzas and burgers would also be sold at the parlour. Fresh milk would be available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., he added.
