As many as 81 cell phones were distributed to doctors of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Government Hospitals on Saturday to facilitate the functioning of the ‘104’ health helpline number.
The ‘104’ helpline was launched in December as an initiative of the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project. The service is being run by the GVK- Emergency Management and Research Institute.
S. Senthil Kumar, Deputy Director of Health Services, Madurai district, said that the phones would serve as personal phones for physicians, specialists and head doctors to facilitate the helpline. “Based on the needs of the persons seeking medical help, their calls will be forwarded to the required physicians or psychologists,” he said.
Handing over the mobile phones to the doctors, Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju urged the public to use the helpline effectively.
Collector L. Subramanian was present.
