The quality of education in the State had gone down to an all-time low in the last fifty years, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan said here on Wednesday.

The Minister said that if the State was really keen on developing students, the government should improve the talent of government school teachers.

As a stop-gap arrangement, the government should appoint unemployed educated youths on temporary basis till filling vacant posts in government schools, he stressed.

Government employees and from panchayat members to MPs should admit their children to government schools, the Minister said.

Steps should be taken to upgrade the standard of government hospitals. Rules should be framed in such a way that peoples’representatives should get treatment in government hospitals.

Adulteration of milk and milk powder was a serious issue and action should be initiated against violators. If the government failed to take action against violators, the Minister concerned should tender his resignation, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

If adulteration was found in milk produced within the State, the State government should take action and if milk was produced from outside the State and sold in Tamil Nadu, the Centre was ready to take action, he said.

Mr. Radhakrishnan also urged the Government to take action against those allegedly involved in receiving bribe in the gutkha issue.
