Milkman loses chain and cash in Madurai

A milkman was robbed of his gold chain, Rs.2,000 in cash and a mobile phone at Jaihindpuram in the early hours of Wednesday.

M. Nagamuthu (25) was cycling home when three persons coming on motorcycle intercepted him on Jaihindpuram First Street at around 5.15 a.m. While two pillion riders got down from the motorcycle, the rider stopped the vehicle some distance away.

One of them slapped him asking him as to why he misbehaved with a girl.

Before, he could realise what was happening, one of them snatched the money kept in his trouser pocket.

He also snatched his mobile phone and a two-sovereign gold chain. The two ran towards the waiting motorcycle and escaped.

Jaihindpuram police are investigating.

Jewels, cash stolen

Burglars struck at the house of a studio owner at Pasupathi Nagar under Oomachikulam police station limits and looted 15 sovereigns of gold and Rs.35,000 in cash on Tuesday.

B. Jagatheesan (44) and his wife had left home for the studio at K. Pudur around 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday. When the couple returned home by 9 p.m. they found the grille gate broken open. Police said the couple had not locked the wooden door inside.

The burglars had broken open the locker inside an unlocked almirah and took away the jewels and cash. Oomachikulam police are investigating.

Woman killed

A woman, V. Gayathri (26), was fatally knocked down by a speeding car on the four-lane highway near Karuppayoorani on Thursday morning.

Police said the woman was riding a two-wheeler towards home when the car hit the vehicle at Ilanthaikulam at 9 a.m.

The victim was rushed to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead.
