Mexican taken to Puzhal prison

The Mexican national, Martin Manrique (40), who was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of murdering his girlfriend Acosta (36), was taken to Puzhal Prisons, Chennai, for detention on the direction of a judicial magistrate court here on Wednesday.

Madurai District Police said the accused was arrested following his confession that he had killed the woman and abandoned her body in a tank near here. Martin was pursuing his research at the Kalasalingam University, Srivilliputtur, Virudhunagar district, while the victim (Acosta), who had also come to India last year, was learning dance in a school in Thrissur, Kerala. A quarrel between the two resulted in the death of the woman, it is suspected. A case of murder was registered.
