The Madurai Kamaraj University has nominated one of its Syndicate members to look into student issues, including hostels, and take steps for speedy redressal of their grievances.
K. Selvakumar, Syndicate member, will take care of student-related issues, including hostels (other than research).
A press release from the university in Madurai on Tuesday said that Syndicate members were being nominated to deal with various issues and for a speedy disposal of grievances.
While Syndicate member R. Kannan will look into Ph.D. and other research-related issues, another member C. Saradhambal is nominated for faculty service issues.
N. Saraswathi will deal with pension issues while P. T. Manoharan has been nominated to look into audit objections and DVAC issues related to staff. K. Pitchumani, Registrar in-charge, has been nominated to deal with NAAC and UGC matters.
The press release also said that prior permission of the university authorities should be obtained for conducting association meetings on the varsity campus only after office hours or during holidays without affecting the academic/administrative work. It also cited the resolution of Syndicate meeting on May 30, 2008, which had withdrawn recognition to various associations.
In another press release, the Registrar in-charge said that a special committee was formed to look after the affairs of all constituent colleges which are situated in Madurai, Vedasandur, Kottur, Tirumangalam, Aruppukottai, Andipatti and Sattur.
The university is also introducing new courses — M. Phil. in Language Studies in Department of English Language Studies and M.Sc. in Peace Making in the Department of Gandhian Studies and Ramalinga Philosophy from the academic year 2012-13.
A memorandum of understanding was signed with Auroville Foundation in Puducherry for transforming MKU campus into a green campus. A. Raman, retired judge of Madras High Court, has been appointed as one-man enquiry committee to probe into allegations of irregularities pertaining to appointments made in the university during 2010-11.
