The Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple here on Sunday released the 2014 calendar featuring deities Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar.
Karumuttu T. Kannan, the Thakkar of the temple, released the calendar in the presence of P. Jayaraman, Joint Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department and Executive Officer of the temple.
According to Mr. Kannan, this year the temple has introduced Nataraja, Siddhar and Chandrasekar avatars of Lord Shiva in the calendar.
The calendar priced at Rs. 100 will be sold in the book stalls and the prasad stalls in the temple.
Speaking on the sidelines of the calendar release, Mr. Kannan announced that the renovation of Thiruvathavur Shiva temple is nearing completion.
“The renovation work at Thiruvathavur Shiva temple which is being carried out at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh is nearing completion and the kumbabishekam will be held soon”, Mr. Kannan said.
Besides, the replacement of stone pillars in the southern corridor of Meenakshi temple would be completed within six months.
“Forty per cent of the replacement work is complete. The sculptors who are replicating the designs of the existing pillars on the new pillars have proved that the old skills are not lost.
In fact, their work is much better than the art works in the existing pillars”, added Mr. Kannan.
