Sankar Nagar to host 13 TNPL matches

The India Cements Limited Cricket Ground at Sankar Nagar here will host 13 of the 32 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) cricket matches to be played this year.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, former cricketer B. Arun and TNPL Media Manager R.N. Baba said the TNPL’s second edition that would commence on July 22 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, in which Albert Tuti Patriots would meet Dindigul Dragons, would organise 13 matches at ICL Grounds, Sankar Nagar.

In the first match to be played at ICL Grounds, Sankar Nagar, Lyca Kovai Kings will meet Karikudi Kaalai on July 23 at 7.15 p.m. It will be followed by Chepauk Super Gillies vs VB Thiruvalluvar Veerans (July 24); Madurai Super Giant vs Karaikudi Kaalai (July 27); Dindigul Dragons vs VB Thiruvalluvar Veerans (July 28); Karaikudi Kaalai vs Albert Tuti Patriots (3.15 p.m. on July 30); VB Thiruvallur Veerans vs Ruby Tiruchi Warriors (7.15 p.m. on July 30); Chepauk Super Gillies vs Albert Tuti Patriots (August 1); Albert Tuti Patriots vs Lyca Kovai Kings (August 3); Dindigul Dragons vs Ruby Tiruchi Warriors (August 5); VB Thiruvallur Veerans vs Albert Tuti Patriots (August 5); Dindigul Dragons vs Karaikudi Kaalai (August 7) and Madurai Super Giant vs VB Thiruvallur Veerans (August 8).

The Qualifier 2 will also be played at ICL Grounds.

“Some of the players who showcased their talent in the TNPL also got an wonderful opportunity in the IPL. It will continue in the years to come,” said Mr. Baba. To entertain cricket fans from other districts, Fan Parks would be established at Coimbatore (July 22), Tiruchi (July 30), Madurai (August 6) and Salem (August 20) where the fans could interact with a cricketer. Moreover, giant screens would be placed and ‘Fun Corner’ would entertain the children.

“Integrity Officers of Anti-Corruption Unit will be with all 8 teams playing in the tournament to avert any foul play,” Mr. Baba said. He said the finest speedsters of TNPL would get fine-tuned at MRF Pace Foundation.
